Why

The theme is AXIS; directional growth in a rural context. This theme is inspired by the unique fashion of Bozeman's rapid growth and how future architects could improve the way a small rural town becomes a large city. Some aspects of Bozeman's growth that we are focusing on is the ecosystem where Bozeman resides, the agriculture industry surrounding the city, and maintaining the existing culture amidst growth. The inspiration for the title of "AXIS" stems from the dilemma of which direction is best for rapid growth; up or out. Many people are hesitant to build tall buildings and change our unique and beautiful skyline while continuing urban sprawl is hard on the agriculture industry and ecosystem. We feel this theme is unique and important to Bozman, other parts of Montana, and many small towns across the west facing the same fate.
